Uelzen
Germany
Uelzen's main draw is the Hundertwasser Station, a railway station redesigned by the Viennese artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser and opened in 2000 as his final completed work. The town in northeast Lower Saxony holds Hanseatic heritage, with a walkable old centre of timber-framed buildings and North German brick Gothic architecture, and sits on the River Ilmenau. Uelzen officially carries the title Hanseatic City, a status rooted in the international trade that brought it prosperity during the medieval period.
