Spread across the slopes of La Malinche Volcano in the eastern part of Tlaxcala, Tzompantepec is a compact farming village on Mexico's Central Plateau with a long history — the area was among the earliest settled in Tlaxcala and was the site of a significant Tlaxcallan defeat during the early Spanish Conquest. The wider region holds several UNESCO World Heritage sites.
