Tyros
Αργολίδα, Αρκαδία · Greece
This pocket-sized coastal village in the Peloponnese where the Parnon mountains meet the Myrtoan Sea, Tyros is one of the older naval settlements in the region and sits between mountain terrain and open water. Its Easter celebrations are among the more distinctive in Greece: on Easter Saturday, hundreds of modest hot air balloons representing the souls of lost sailors are released over the harbour bay, accompanied by fireworks, while Good Friday brings a candlelit Epitaph procession along the coastal road.
