Toyooka, in the northern part of Hyōgo Prefecture, is known as the last habitat of wild Oriental storks in Japan, with ongoing conservation and breeding programmes that have made the city a reference point for wildlife coexistence. The city sits close to mountains and water in the Tajima region, and holds a Wikivoyage presence that reflects steady independent traveller interest.
