Compact town on the Sogndalsfjorden — a branch of the great Sognefjord — Sogndal sits where a river meets the water, with mountain terrain rising around it and scenic viewpoints in the surrounds. The centre has cafés and restaurants, and the wider region holds several UNESCO World Heritage sites. Lerum Konserves, Norway's largest producer of juice and jam, is based here, and the town is also home to a campus of the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.
