Sinj, a pocket-sized town in the continental part of Croatia's Split-Dalmatia County, is best known for the Sinjska alka, a knights' tournament held since the early 18th century to mark a victory over the Ottoman Empire, and for the shrine of Our Lady of Sinj. Set in mountain terrain with a good café and restaurant scene for its size, the town's urban centre is a protected cultural heritage site.
