This coastal district on the Aegean Sea southwest of İzmir, Seferihisar is known for its tangerine and satsuma orchards, the seaside resort neighborhood of Sığacık with its own port, and the ruins of the ancient city of Teos. The wider district has a largely rural character despite its size, and the population swells considerably during the summer season. Seferihisar became a district in 1884.
