This town in eastern Bolivia's Santa Cruz department that has developed into a regional tourism hub, with a compact centre holding cafés and restaurants within easy reach of water. Noel Kempff Mercado National Park, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000, lies within the municipality, and the wider area is associated with the Jesuit mission settlements of Chiquitos. The town takes its name from Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, whose missionaries established the region's mission towns.
