This small Cakchiquel Maya town on the eastern shore of Lake Atitlán in Guatemala's Sololá Department, known for its community's distinctive traditional clothing. The town's name combines a reference to its patron saint, Anthony of Padua — honoured each 13 June — with a Kaqchikel word for the amate tree. It briefly formed part of the short-lived State of Los Altos between 1838 and 1840, and in 1963 the shores of Lake Atitlán here served as a filming location for Mexican director Emilio Fernández's film Paloma herida.
