Saluzzo

A medieval hill town in Piedmont's Cuneo province, Saluzzo served as capital of its own marquisate for over four centuries — from 1142 to 1548 — and retains a walkable historic centre with many churches, cafés, and restaurants. It sits at the foot of the Monviso mountain group, with views over a broad cultivated plain, and was the birthplace of writer Silvio Pellico and typographer Giambattista Bodoni. The wider region is deep wine country ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites.
