This pocket-sized Swiss town in the Bernese Jura mountains, Saint-Imier is known as the site of the 1872 Saint-Imier Congress, widely regarded as the founding moment of the anarchist movement, and has hosted international anarchist gatherings ever since. The town sits alongside water in mountain terrain, with an astronomical observatory on the heights above, and a modest café and restaurant scene in its centre.
