A compact town in the Gard department of southern France's Occitanie region, Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort sits on the Vidourle river in mountain terrain, with a silk museum and a set of barracks among its historic landmarks. Four protected monuments include a dolmen and the Dugas building, and the surrounding area holds a Natura 2000 site covering the gorges of Rieutord, Fage, and Cagnasse. The wider region is deep wine country with scenic viewpoints throughout.
