Ringed by dozens of traditional falaj water channels — ancient underground irrigation systems that surface as tiny rivers and streams threading through palm groves — Rustaq is a historic trading and administrative city in northern Oman's Batinah region. The surrounding wilayat encompasses around 175 palm-oasis villages sustained by this centuries-old water network, with mountain views on the horizon and several UNESCO World Heritage sites within reach across the wider region.
