A city in south-western Guatemala's Pacific Lowlands, Retalhuleu — locally nicknamed "Reu" — is known for its historic churches in the centre and a lively commercial scene. Each December, the city hosts a patronal festival honouring the Virgen de la Concepción, featuring religious events, cattle exhibitions, bullfights, and equestrian competitions. The surrounding region holds UNESCO World Heritage sites, and mountains are visible from the city.
