Cabo Girão, considered the highest promontory in Europe at 580 metres, sits above this modest Atlantic-facing parish in Madeira's Câmara de Lobos municipality, making it a notable stop on the island. The community itself is primarily agricultural, with the ocean to the south and mountain terrain rising behind it. A road connecting Funchal and Calheta passes through, giving visitors easy access to the clifftop viewpoint and the wider UNESCO-recognised landscape of the Madeira archipelago.
