Pleven

Bulgaria

Known as "the city of museums," Pleven is a northern Bulgarian city where the 1877 Siege of Pleven — a decisive battle in Bulgaria's Liberation War — is commemorated throughout, most notably in the Pleven Panorama. The walkable centre has a real café and restaurant scene, vineyards lie in the immediate surroundings, and the wider region holds several UNESCO World Heritage sites.
