Palu
Indonesia
Palu sits at the mouth of the Palu River on Sulawesi's northwestern coast, with a walkable centre offering cafés and restaurants along the waterfront and mountains visible from the bay. The provincial capital of Central Sulawesi, it holds the region's main port, airport, and universities. The city was severely damaged by the 2018 earthquake and subsequent soil liquefaction event, and local authorities have been planning to relocate parts of the city rather than rebuild in place.
