Otavalo, a highland town in Ecuador's Imbabura Province, is widely known for its indigenous Saturday market — one of the largest craft and textile markets in South America — held by the Otavalo people, who make up much of the local population. Set at high elevation and ringed by the volcanic peaks of Imbabura, Cotacachi, and Mojanda, the town also has a walkable centre with a concentration of historic churches and a lively food scene.
