Obanazawa
Obanazawa City · Japan
A city in Yamagata Prefecture known for receiving some of the highest snowfall in the world — over two metres in an average winter — Obanazawa has even developed a distinctive sharply peaked "flower hat" (hanagasa) to keep snow from accumulating on the wearer's head. The surrounding Tohoku highlands also make it a source of Obanazawa beef and watermelon, two regional products the area is known for.
