Ninh Thuận, a former coastal province on Vietnam's South Central Coast now merged into Khánh Hòa, was for centuries the political and cultural heart of the Cham kingdom of Panduranga — and for more than a century served as the capital of a unified Cham state. The area borders the South China Sea to the east and mountains to the west, and carries deep ties to Champa civilization and Sa Huynh culture.
