Navahrudak
Belarus
Navahrudak, a town in western Belarus, is home to one of the country's historic Tatar mosques — a wooden structure known since the 16th century, rebuilt in 1855 with funds from a retired major, closed and converted to housing under Soviet rule, and restored to worshippers in 1997 to mark the 600th anniversary of Tatar settlement in Belarus. The mosque received a royal building privilege in 1792 from King Stanisław August Poniatowski and was visited in 1929 by Polish President Ignacy Mościcki.
