Mitzpe Ramon
Israel
Sitting on the northern rim of Makhtesh Ramon — a vast erosion crater in the central Negev — this small Israeli town offers some of the most dramatic desert viewpoints in the region. Founded in 1953 as a workers' camp during the construction of the road to Eilat, Mitzpe Ramon became a permanent settlement in 1956 and has since developed a café and restaurant scene that punches above its size.
