A walkable Lake Superior port town with a photogenic waterfront, a centre full of cafés and restaurants, and a concentration of historic churches, Marquette is the largest city in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It serves as a major iron-ore shipping port and is home to Northern Michigan University, whose ice hockey team won a Division I national championship in 1991. The Huron Mountains lie to the west, adding mountain terrain to the lake access.
