Maracay

Known in Venezuela as "Ciudad Jardín" (Garden City) for its abundant green spaces, Maracay is a large city in north-central Venezuela at the foot of the coastal mountain range, serving as the capital of Aragua state. It holds a place in Venezuelan aviation history as the birthplace of the country's first airline, Aeropostal, founded in 1929. The city is also a base for visiting Henri Pittier National Park and the town of Choroní on the nearby Caribbean coast.
