The capital of Southern Leyte province in the Philippines, Maasin sits on the water at the southern tip of Leyte island, with a compact centre holding a concentration of historic churches and a café and restaurant scene. The city is also known as the birthplace of Rodrigo Duterte, the 16th President of the Philippines, and serves as the commercial and religious hub of the surrounding region.
