A heritage-dense little town on Romney Marsh in Kent, Lydd was prosperous enough in the 13th century to hold membership in the Cinque Ports as a limb of Romney. Listed buildings include a Gordon house longhall, a guildhall, and a medieval courthouse, and 15th-century chamberlains' and churchwardens' accounts survive alongside the town's charters. The most southerly town in Kent, its parish extends to Dungeness and the coast at Lydd-on-Sea.
