Lichinga
Mozambique
This highland city in northern Mozambique, Lichinga sits on a plateau at considerable elevation, close to Lake Niassa (Lake Malawi) and within reach of mountain terrain. Capital of Niassa Province, it was founded as a farming and military settlement under the colonial name Vila Cabral. The surrounding landscape — plateau, lake, and mountains — gives it more geographic variety than most Mozambican cities of comparable size, and it has its own airport.
