This compact Sardinian hill town serves as co-capital of the Province of Ogliastra alongside Tortolì, sitting in mountain terrain with scenic surroundings and a café and restaurant scene substantial for its size. Lanusei is also the seat of a diocese and holds a concentration of historic churches. The Salesians established their first house in Sardinia here on 14 June 1902, and an asteroid discovered in 1984 bears the town's name.
