This city in Gilan province on the northern slopes of the Alborz Mountains, Lahijan sits close to the Caspian Sea with a walkable centre known for its cafés and restaurants. The surrounding hillsides are covered in tea plantations, and scenic viewpoints open across the landscape. Once the historical capital of East Gilan, the city blends traditional and modern architecture and is regarded as a significant tourism hub in northern Iran.
