La Ceiba
Honduras
This Caribbean port city on Honduras's northern coast, La Ceiba holds an annual carnival each May — drawing around half a million visitors — to honour San Isidro Labrador. Founded in 1877 and named after a giant ceiba tree that once stood near the old dock, the city has been designated Honduras's eco-tourism capital, with the Caribbean Sea at its edge and mountains visible inland.
