Kumasi is the cultural heart of Ghana's Ashanti Region and home to the Kejetia Market, the largest market in West Africa. Once the capital of the Asante Empire, the city remains the seat of the Asantehene, and the traditional Asante buildings of the wider region are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Set near Lake Bosomtwe in a rainforest zone, Kumasi is also known as "The Garden City" and hosts a growing local film industry, Kumawood, producing Twi-language stories.
