Kronach

Germany

Birthplace of the Renaissance painter Lucas Cranach the Elder, Kronach is a town in Upper Franconia where three rivers meet at the edge of the Franconian Forest. Its old town retains a nearly complete circuit of walls, gates, and towers alongside sandstone and half-timbered houses, while Rosenberg Fortress — one of Germany's most complete early modern fortresses — rises above the centre. The town also sits along the Burgenstraße and the Bavarian Porcelain Road.
