Home to the oldest continuously operating mint in the world, Kremnica is a modest medieval town in central Slovakia where gold and silver have been mined since the 10th century. Granted royal mining-town status in 1328 and long nicknamed "Golden Kremnica," its well-preserved historic centre includes a castle designated as a national cultural monument, set in mountain country with scenic viewpoints nearby and a cluster of historic churches for its size.
