Kon Tum

Vietnam

City in Vietnam's Central Highlands with a walkable centre and a lively café and restaurant scene, Kon Tum sits on the fertile banks of the Dak Bla River near the borders of Laos and Cambodia. Its name derives from the Ba Na language, meaning "Village by the Lake," reflecting the indigenous Ba Na people who have long inhabited the area. French missionaries established the region's first Christian mission here in the 1840s, and French colonial authorities formally named the city in 1893.
