Kediri
Indonesia
City in East Java split down the middle by the Brantas River, Kediri has a walkable centre with a real café and restaurant scene. One of the oldest cities in East Java, it sits in a region associated with an 11th-century Hindu kingdom, and today serves as a major hub for Indonesia's sugar and cigarette industries — the latter anchored by the Gudang Garam company, headquartered here. Mountains lie close to the city on its outskirts.
