Kallar Kahar

Pakistan

A saltwater lake and a Mughal landmark draw visitors to this town in Punjab, Pakistan's Chakwal District. Emperor Babur, who stopped here regularly on his way to Kashmir, described the site of Takht-e-Babri as a place of good air, and recorded the town in his memoirs as a "child of Kashmir." The surrounding orchards of loquat, pear, and pomegranate have historically sheltered peacocks, though their numbers have declined. Bagh-e-Safa garden was founded here in 1519.
