Jihlava

Kraj Vysočina · Czechia

The oldest mining settlement in the Czech Republic, Jihlava was also the first city in Central Europe to codify mining law, a history that shaped its well-preserved centre — now an urban monument reservation mixing Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture. The early Gothic Church of Saint James the Great stands as its most significant monument. The city later became a major textile centre in the Austrian Empire, and today its walkable historic core holds a dense food-and-drink scene alongside multiple historic churches.
