Hemer
Germany
A town in the northern Sauerland region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hemer takes its nickname — Felsenmeerstadt, or "Sea of Rocks City" — from the Felsenmeer, a geological formation described as unique in Germany. First documented in 1072, the town has a long industrial history in metalworking and paper production. In 2010, the grounds of a former military barracks hosted the North Rhine-Westphalian state garden show, which drew over a million visitors.
