A town in the westernmost part of Amasya Province in northern Türkiye, Gümüşhacıköy — still commonly known by its older name Hacıköy — sits in a mountainous district framed by the Tavşan, Ereğli, and İnegöl ranges, with a flat central valley watered by streams that feed the Kızılırmak and Yeşilırmak rivers. Its name combines two formerly separate settlements: Gümüş, meaning silver, and Hacıköy, meaning village of pilgrims.
