Groenlo, a little town in the eastern Netherlands near the German border, is the original home of Grolsch beer, brewed here from 1615 until the brewery relocated in 2004. Sitting in the Gelderland region known as the Achterhoek, the town has a compact centre with cafés and restaurants, and historically went by the name Grolle — the root of the Grolsch brand still exported worldwide.
