Known across Bulgaria as the national capital of humour and satire, Gabrovo is a central Bulgarian town stretched along the Yantra River — making it the longest town in the country, running some 25 kilometres end to end while rarely exceeding a kilometre in width. The Yantra also anchors the compact centre, where cafés and restaurants line the riverbanks alongside historic bridges, churches, and monuments from the Bulgarian National Revival period. The geographic centre of Bulgaria lies just outside town, near Uzana, at the foot of the central Balkan Mountains.
