Fayzabad, the provincial capital of Badakhshan in northeastern Afghanistan, sits alongside the Kokcha River in mountain terrain and serves as the main commercial hub of the Pamir region. The city has bazaars, public parks, hotels, restaurants, and shrines of historical importance, alongside Badakhshan University. Limited domestic flights connect it to the rest of the country, while roads link it southeast toward Ishkashim and southwest toward Taloqan.
