El Alamein, on Egypt's Mediterranean coast west of Alexandria, is best known as the site of the pivotal Second World War battles between British and German forces — battles commemorated today by war cemeteries, memorials, and a museum serving visitors of multiple nationalities. The town also sits beside Marina el Alamein, a coastal resort area, and the ancient archaeological site of Leukaspis, while a large-scale development project launched in 2018 is reshaping the surrounding coastline with new resorts and residential districts.
