The westernmost point of both Åland and Finland, this pocket-sized Swedish-speaking village on the Åland archipelago is home to the Post and Customs House, a monumental 1828 building designed by architect C.L. Engel as the largest structure built to support the postal route between Stockholm and St. Petersburg. Eckerö is also the Åland port for the shortest ferry crossing from Sweden, with services running to Grisslehamn on the Swedish coast.
