A walkable town in Brandenburg's Barnim district, northeast of Berlin, Eberswalde sits at the edge of large forests — including the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve — that offer scenic surroundings and waterside access. Long known as Waldstadt (forest town), it pairs a centre with cafés and restaurants with easy reach of the wider biosphere landscape. The town was also a significant industrial centre before German Reunification, giving it a dual character that carries into the present.
