One of Switzerland's oldest Benedictine monasteries — its current complex built between 1696 and 1712, though the foundation dates to 720 — anchors this small village high in the Rhine valley in the canton of Grisons. Disentis/Mustér serves as both a ski resort and a summer destination, with a handful of cafés and restaurants and an unusual number of churches for a settlement its size.
