Tiny Belgian town on the Damme Canal, just a short distance northeast of Bruges, Damme was the medieval outer harbour for both Bruges and Ghent and retains a concentration of old buildings from that era. The town has reinvented itself in recent years as a book town, and its size belies a genuine café and restaurant scene. The surrounding flat landscape offers scenic cycling and walking routes along the canal.
