This little Andean town in Peru's Ancash Region sits close to mountain terrain and carries the nickname "the mirror of the sky." Capital of Bolognesi Province, Chiquián has a compact central core with cafés and restaurants, and the wider region holds several UNESCO World Heritage sites. Its founding date is uncertain, though local tradition places it on 4 October — the feast day of its patron, Saint Francis of Assisi — sometime in the mid-to-late 16th century.
