Chinde
Mozambique
This port town at the mouth of the Zambezi River in Mozambique's Zambezia Province, Chinde developed around the Sena Sugar Estates and gained its wide paved roads and brick buildings in the 1950s. It remains an active fishing centre and exports copra and sugar. Much of the mid-century infrastructure has fallen into disrepair since the civil war, giving the town a layered, weathered character that draws independent travellers.
