Chimoio, the capital of Mozambique's Manica Province, sits close to Monte Binga — the country's tallest peak — and serves as a gateway to Chimanimani National Park and Gorongosa National Park. The city lies on the railway line from Beira to Bulawayo and functions as a transport hub connecting central Mozambique to Zimbabwe and Malawi. A rock formation called Cabeça do Velho is nearby. The city has roots as an agricultural and textiles centre under Portuguese administration, when it was known as Vila Pery.
